Searching the net these last few days looking for "How to make a wooden pen box" or with similar words the best i came across was by far David's from Timberbits, but to try and emulate his i would have to invest in quite a bit of machinery, something that i don't want to do... :rolling:

Do you know of a tutorial using less machinery to do the same job ... :thinks:

Thanks Guys ...

Jim, try this page of the IAP library. First two tutorials are quite easy to follow if you have a router with a template follower collet (most routers have one in the box) and can make up a simple jig.

Otherwise, do you have anything specific in mind? I might be able to help ...

Jim,

The last two boxes i put up on here were made with only a mire saw as a piece of machinery!

The joints are simple butt joints held together with CA glue, and the lid for one was a simple pivot hinge, and the second didn't even have a hinge, the lid just lifted off.

Inside I just fold up some nice material and rest the pens on there.

Started off making larger boxes, and used this book as my reference, some great ideas and basic tips on box making tricks and techniques.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Making-Heirloom-Boxes-Peter-Lloyd/dp/1861081766/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1383555590&sr=8-1&keywords=making+heirloom+boxes

Here are two of the larger boxes I made, if you've got a router table and a decent saw then you're laughing and a decent seat of hand planes (No. 4 and No. 6 at least) will enable you to work with larger bits of lumber to dimension and finish.

I have plans for my next box to make it with hand cut dovetails, but I'm not promising anything! Maybe I'll attempt a tutorial?!:bwink:

Anyway, I hope that's helped a little!

Hand made artisan goods are always unique and command a higher price. I dread to think the ££££s I have binned over the years.
