I went to home of woods open day today, really nice chaps - you can see Alex's haul in another thread. In a corner was a load of pen blanks. They said they don't like wasting wood, but it's not what they really do. I said they ought to pop on this forum to say hello.

Each one they sold for 50p..... I did say other places were more expensive. Picture of other blanks for the size. I've added one yew blank from timberline at 96p, (which I though a bargin) and one from a set of five ( the smallest one) again yew.

I'm new, but I think this was a bargain.....

Thanks for this Paul, depending on where you buy pen blanks there can be a big difference on costs. I would say you got a bargain on these blanks my friend. These people are just what us pen turners need, they make a small profit and we get some decent blanks at a very good price .. :bwink:

Agree with this,I got a 4ft x 10 inch x 1 inch piece of london plane for £15 and can get over 80 6inch pen blanks from it.

yep i bought some offcut boards one was 2 inch thick 8 feet long the other was the same 2 foot long then there was a 1 inch thick and that 6 foot long bought the lot about 2 years ago for £10 will get about 200 blanks from it
