Nice !

What is hornbeam ? Sorry to be ignorant, but best to ask. :face:

Wiki says it better than I can Phill.

"Hornbeams are relatively small hardwood trees in the genus Carpinus. Though some botanists grouped them with the hazels and hop-hornbeams in a segregate family, Corylaceae, modern botanists place the hornbeams in the birch subfamily Coryloideae." Wikipedia

Very nice indeed, you have done a superb job of the cross as well.

I like hornbeam.. I have a few bits of spalled hornbeam that I managed to scavenge a few years ago..

I have a streamline that I did a few months ago, so now you have started me I will have to post it.. :ave_it:

Nice one Doug, never heard of Hornbeam before. The contrast of your excellent Celtic cross against the Hornbeam looks very neat...
Love the finish :thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:

hornbeam is a small tree that is fairly common in the UK but grows better in the south. If it wasn't for hornbeam we probably wouldn't have hosted the industrial revolution as the heat that burning hornbeam produces is the only one able to produce the intensity to smelt iron. it was also used to make the centres of wheels as it is so hard. The Americans call it iron wood.
