How do you sharpen ... a beading tool? & a dovetail scraper tool?

Hi all know it’s probably cheating but thought they might help me a novice...

While I don’t think you would use a sharpening system... mine is the Robert Sorby Pro.

Am I right in thinking you just hone these very gently?

Hi Kevin. I sharpen my beading tools by honing the bevel. If you sharpen it on the pro edge then put you gouge v block on the table which should be set to the appropriate angle & keep your tool tight to the outside edge of the block, this will sharpen your tool square & keep the points the same length. Once groundjust u your diamond hone lightly.
I’m not sure what your dovetail scraper is. Hope this helps.

As others have said; The beading tool is just sharpened by passing it over a, preferably diamond, stone on the flat side. Don't try to sharpen the curved parts as you are highly likely to wreck the curve permanently.
The dovetail scraper is best sharpened like any other scraper. Ensure the top surface is flat (stone again), then sharpen the edges carefully. The Pro Edge will be fine for the edge perpendicular to the handle axis, but you'll struggle with the second edge because of access to the belt at such an angle.

Sadly theses are two examples of tools that can't be really be effectively sharpened on the Pro Edge. A diamond card is your friend for these.

Ahh, that one can be sharpened on the Pro Edge like any other scraper.
Skim over the top with a diamond card, then grind the perpendicular end, then turn and grind the dovetail edge. I use 80deg for my scrapers on the SPE, but you might prefer something else.

Aldi and Lidl often sell these four sided diamond blocks for not much money. Apart from other things like knives I sharpen carbide inserts on mine.

Recently I brought my 4 way cutters back to life using the flat top on a diamond file ,only takes a couple of minutes. 3 1/2 hrs of rock turning still using that one cutter.
