How much nib on a ball point should be showing?

I am sure this has be been asked before so apologies to all.

I have made a few Slimline pens and most recently been enjoying making the Tempest pens. I have noticed there is a difference of the amount of nib showing once finished, and assume this is because of the amount of the brass tube is sanded away when squaring the ends, obviously as little as possible.

Is there a correct amount or length of nib that should be showing when finished, I just want to get it right.

Thank you
Derek

I can't speak for the slimlines Derek, but the Tempest is designed to show about 3 to 3.5mm of refill tip. More than that and you've over trimmed the tubes I'm afraid.

If you show pics of the nib wound forward on each. I have a personal preference with Slims/Streamline to bring the tip to just under housed in the nib. I have a preference also for other people to follow the angle of the nib when extended.

Peter.
