How to use a Scroll Saw?

I am a woodworking beginner. Can anyone tell me the step by step guide how to use a scroll saw and which Scroll saw is best for metal cutting?

Hello mate, have a look at scroll saw workshop website for good advice and plenty of free templates. As far as the best scroll saw is concerned I would say Hegner but others may have a different preference.

All scroll saws will cut metal it is the blades that you need to look at, best thing is to see what is available in your area of on the internet for those, also another factor is the thickness like many things cutting metal normally means a reduced thickness can be cut compared to wood.
As for brands Hegner are a good one as well as some of the other makes like DeWalt if they still produce one on your side of the pond as they do not do one for here in the UK. There are others but not being someone who does a lot of scrollwork I only have a cheap one which is OK but not great.

What type and thickness metal are you cutting? Cutting metal with a scroll saw is very tedious. Any variable speed saw will work. Hegner, RBI, Excaliber, DeWalt, Eclipse to name a few.

I'm going to make a knife out of 1/8 flat steel I trace my pattern onto the metal and cut it out. Can you cut 1/8 metal with a scroll saw?

I personaly would use and angle grinder just take it easy and don't over heat the metal, I knoe that you will need to heat treat the metal to get it to the correct temper.

A scrollsaw would not be suitable for cutting this thickness I would have thought that a bandsaw with a suitable blade would be a better option if the grinder is not what you want

An angle grinder with a thin blade, 1 mm thick, would the the easiest and cheapest way.

Yes it's possible. Get yourself lots of blades and wax or oil to lube the blade while cutting. Apply the lube to the cut line. Slow the blade speed and really take your time. Angle grinder is a good suggestion. It will be a lot faster.
