HUON PINE BURL 2000 yr old tree.

An exercise in fulfillment for me one of my early loves this timber. In the burl form it is getting rare. Since the tree grows but mm,s a year the pieces came from a weather downed tree of great height the 2000 yrs may be conservative.

Huon pine has an indefinable perfume created by the tree to repel insects successfully. A friend sold 4 tons of it he bought for furniture use thirty five years ago in plain grain because the smell was overpowering in his workshop.

I think I have a new source to be confirmed in a couple of weeks .

A native tree only grows in Tasmania south of the mainland in rain forest. Travelling through this country is eerie and majestic, such a history involved. No bark inclusions were cut out during the turning of the top

It's a great pen Peter and your right about the smell ! I was lucky enough to come by some of these blanks and the smell is gorgeous. In my view it tops Thuya and that is pretty special
