Made my first pen to day. A bullet pen nothing complicated. The wood turned out very weĺl. I only have a metal lathe but it worked out really well. I used a round profiling carbide cutter to turn the blank down to size then switched to sand paper to get the corect finnish. Once assembled the pen looked really good. I used the lathe and my milling machine to complete the project. Im well impressed and can not wait to have another go.

Great news Dave, and congratulations on your first pen. Be brave enough to share a photo of it here for posterity. I promise no-one is going to compare or tell you it's bad - only give encouragement to turn your second. Everyone here had to start somewhere after all.

I can do pictures I did not think you would be interested in a basic pen kit after looking at the quality work you guys are producing.*

Quite the opposite Dave. We'd ALL love to see what EVERYONE makes, beginner or advanced, good or bad - for so many reasons. Not least of all, there are plenty of folks here at an early stage of pen making, and it's good for everyone to be able to see others work and to share ideas. It's not all just about seeing the cream of the crop, it's about the journey.

Hi Phil et al,

This is exactly why I like this forum. A picture is worth a thousand words; they show progress and invite constructive comment. This is one a built today. It has many faults but the next one will be better.

Thanks Mark. Unfortunately I don't yet have a camera other than the one in my 'phone, so that will have to do for the time being.
