Does anyone know of a lock n load bullet kit where the clip is not a fixture - in other words I want to be able to assemble the pen but omit the clip. (yes, I know - but the customer is always right). All the kits I know of have their clips moulded into the finial, so they are non starters.

I’m pretty sure that the lock n load kits I had from Dan had threaded top so that the clip could be removed. I seem to remember one or two of them being loose when I assembled them. :thinks:
Thanks for the suggestion Ray, but the ones on the Taylors Mirfield site are just the cheap Rizheng bullets that you can get all over the place. They have clips moulded into the finial I'm afraid.

The Tec pen has a clip that is held on with two screws, if that is any good.

Thanks for the suggestion Peter, but I need it more bullet-like than the Tec I'm afraid. I'm not sure how I'd deal with two screw holes either to be honest.

I have just looked at one of my bolt actions, the top screws off and you can take off the clip. It's either from Rizheng or from Timberbits, I will see if I have some unmade kits and see who they were from.

The 3006 bullet pens from Vince at Turners Workshop are the PSI ones and you can reverse the clip....so are removable....not quite a lock and load but an option:thinks:

It was definitely from Rizheng. When you take off the clip it leaves a small cut out where the clip slots in, I can take a photo if it's not clear what I mean.

That's strange, as I have some of the Rizheng kits here, and the clips are moulded into the finial. I will double check but I'm pretty sure that's the case. They are at least a couple of years old though, so perhaps they've changed the way they do things in the meantime. Thanks for the pointer Peter.

I've just been on Vince's site. It's not obvious which kit you mean Mark - I can't find a reference to 3006. I'm not especially up on bullets and guns I'm afraid, so I think perhaps I'm being a bit dim. Are you saying that all those 30 caliber PSI bolt actions can be assembled without a clip, without leaving any telltale holes or gaps? If so, they would fit the bill perfectly.

Hi Phil, yes its the .30 cal pens, you can remove the clips but i think they will leave a small gap where the clip was.

Ah - Ok thanks for the clarification. Still a telltale hole then, but worth looking into though possibly. It seems I may be seeking something that just isn't made.

I just tried another one from Rizheng and it doesn't want to come off, so maybe some of them are on very tight.

Hi Phil. I've have the PSI 7000 bolt action magnum kits as (hopefully) shown. If your looking for the 30 cal there the 8000 series which look to have the same top with removable clip. As Mark say's and again in the picture it does leave a slight gap for the clip.

Thanks for that David. That's clarification. It occurs to me that I might be able to modify a different clip to shove in the gap - it's the rifle he objects to, not a clip per se.

I have 30 cal bolt action kits from both PSI & Timberbits, I'll have a look at both when I get home later this afternoon.

Wants a bullet pen, but objects to the clip trying to look like a rifle because he thinks it looks tacky. Can't say I disagree!

If it can come off try a nice clip from that very nice man Phil fella from Beaufort inks to replace it:funny::funny::funny::whistling::whistling::whistling:

At least P & P will be cheap and delivery time extra quick:wink:

Phill,

As per others say, the RZ kits do unscrew.

The timberbits and PSI ones (same manufacturer Millylime. I think) are a press interference fit.

To remove them you will find a small "Phillips" type screw from the refil end, remove that then the bolt action lever will remove and then drop out.

Then simply knock the clip retainer cap out to remove the clip..(the same as you would to disassemble a kit)

Hope that helps.

Edit, I think have a picture in my PC I will post it later if I can find it..

here you go Phil.

This is how the PSI and Timberbits ones fit together.

The RZ ones are a screw fit as others have said.

To remove the bolt action arm remove the phillips type screw from the center, (Refill end) then unscrew the bolt action lever.. you will need to screw it back and forth as the idea of the screw is to secure the lever in place which squashes the thread internally. Once you screw the lever back and forth it will eventually replenish the thread and unscrew fully.

The reason I know how it works is I had a couple of levers come loose.

There is a company up north somewhere that does clips I believe. I am certain the customer service to you would be exceptional..:face:

Thanks for that Eamonn, and thanks to one and all. I'll get on the case.

Yes I should be able to lay my hands on a suitable clip - I've got a few knocking around somewhere:whistling:
