Dunno what the wood is but I think it's bloody lovely, and a bloody lovely pen made with it.
Not so sure it is pink Ivory though, all the pink Ivory I have seen and used has been a bit more pink than that and close grained.
This looks a though it is a bit burry, a larger piece might well have shown off the pip in it too.
There is actually a number of woods that can have pink in them for various reasons.
Looking through the colouring I would like to think it could be Yew.
Neil's word would be final for me, what is it Neil??

You beat me to it Woody, Wellingtonia is a softwood and the grain is as you have shown much wider for a faster growing species.

Does the wood smell when turned, Camphor Laurel would have been my first guess, agree about pink Ivory. More clues required, was it heavy/light and did it turn like box or Walnut, piccies of the shavings can be a clue. Sorry cant be anymore help. Smell, weight shavings? any more clues.

Figured Red Gum if it is an Aussie Timber. I have a lot of Pink Ivory its not that IMHO, nor Sumac cause Sumac has flecks in the grain, Has the pinkish appearance of Tasmanian Myrtle if its an Aussie timber. Put a label on it great find smooth grain takes a beaut finish makes a nice pen. Not like any Camphor Laurel I have seen cause when finished it glows and the colour is definite bands with greens whites etc.

Kind regards Peter.
