Like Ed, I tried today and whilst far from perfect, I'm happy that I did my best. Mine are made from 4 small cones so you can see the joins but I have a couple of larger cones so hopefully next time if I can pluck up the courage.

Out of my comfort zone also and I doubt if the cones can be turned with anything other than a skewbut very satisfying in the end and my other half absolutely loves it (but typically wants to wait to see if the next is better before claiming the pen - women!)

That is really well done and the fact that it is actually 4 small cones make it even more of an achievement. It really is a beauty. They do look great the pine cone pens, I am off to my mates woods tomorrow to see if I can find larger one, he says he has seen them about 5" long, I hope he did.

I did turn one with a roughing gouge, but I didn't dare take it as fast as I would with a skew, which has to be the best tool to turn these with.

Wish I'd brought some of these back. This wasn't the biggest by a long way!

No matter how many pine cones you used that is a fantastic pen Bob and one to be proud of.
