...said the guy who commissioned the Baron fountain pen I made for him.
" I used it everyday for months and it was fine, then went a bit "scratchy" and stopped working"

The cartridge had run out!

"Have you replaced the cartridge", says I.
"not yet" says the customer, " but "I thought there may be a problem with the nib, so i unscrewed the end of the pen and stuck it in make up remover for 48 hours", "it melted"! (obviously faulty!)
I wouldn't mind, but he got the "how to care for your pen" list with it.
Any one got a spare?

I wouldn't be happy either' how can someone abuse something that you have worked so hard to create.:nonono:

They have no respect, they expect to actually use the pen and not fit any refills:vangry:

You either need to change your custom base or make sure they don't use the pens for what they are actually made for..:rolling:

Can't imagine what anyone would put it in make up remover for, ever thought that they had used it to apply the make up instead of writing with it?

I sont have a direct replace, net for the Baron but do have some separate feeds if you are stuck.

I would just explain that becuase they ruined it, you need to order the parts which come as a set and he has to wait and pay for the kit as well as the repair, all with a smile and a friendly tone, Don't you carry spares of everything?

If you put an iron in water to clean it the guarantee would be void so what dose he expect the fault was him placing it in the fluid which you don't recommend on your after care sheet make him pay for it

The Iridium point is now being "made in Germany" this may now take some time!
You are now on my "More on" list, I have "more on" than worrying about your stupidity:ciggrin:
' Reckon I should introduce a range of pens for the illiterate, and see how they sell.!:funny::funny::funny:

My experience tells me a sufficient explanation of their actions has directly caused serious damage to your beautiful pen I would then restore it to good as new patiently explaining how unfortunate this experience was never believed making an enemy rather a friend
of a customer seriously feel for you in this case mate hope it works out alright in the end. I was involved in a serious accident a long time ago the guy who suffered a broken leg I visited in hospital he was a police prosecuter and motor cycle cop was muscelled around physically by his mates around by his mates when I visited him in hospital initially they gave me the treatment on the way in. Glad I went the extra mile to apologise he had lots of kids like me around the same age he was very kind. The sequal? in court was a 15 pound fine but a friendship so strong. Years later he turned up at my Photographic Society and said hi mate I just spent thirty quid on a camera which way do I point it.He became a great camera man retired early from the Police force worked as a scientific photographer. I went into business as a Photographer in a nearby 100km away city our kids started hiving off in their teens causing us to worry about future employment and it meant them leaving home after the third one of ours moved out we were in a fix I received a phone call from my now mate Back in Canberra we have a vacancy my boss is away on long service for a few months come and work with me it could lead to full time permanancy in the organisation Long story short I left my family at home boarded out bought a home here in Canberra again and spent months running back and forwards got a permanent job as a Technician Photograher for some years in another brach of that Commonwealth Scientific Organisation CSIRO.

Would of been easy to fall out big time following a serious dissagreement. That man would be in his 90,s now we remained great friends. The key to life IMHO.

Kind regards Peter.:thumbs::goesred:

Don't blame him, blame the person who dresses him in the morning and ties his shoelaces. One more braincell and it'd be lonely.... Pondlife.

Give him a hefty Bill Neil

If the nibs are ok that Walter gives you I'll replace it Walter.

That's very generous of you Paul but quite unnecessary. The nibs you sent me have been most useful in helping me understand the inner workings of fountain pens and I feel much more confident now about taking them apart and selecting replacement Nibs.

Neil, I have replaced the nib in one of my completed barons (the one I cocked up at your fundaiser) with one of the ones Paul sent me and I will bring the original baron unit down to Harrogate for you.

Is the plated metal outer part of the nib section still intact or do you need a replacement for that too? I may have a spare kit if you do.

When I first saw this post, it reminded me of a friend who is very short and a lorry driver. One day a car drove into him causing a bit of damage. He got out and whilst walking over to the car he said "I'm not happy!"... the man in the car replied "which one are you then?"

I saw the pen today!
I was quite pleased with the way it looked. The Walnut body had darkened slightly since it was made, but this gave it a bit more depth to the grain. The finish was great, it had that look of a well used pen, no wear (as in damage), but a nice patina, quite deep and rich.
The end cap was unscrewed to reveal........ NOTHING!

He's binned the whole working end of the pen!:vangry::rant::rant::rant:

At the very least, I would have expected it to come back complete (in some way), so I could inspect the damage. I would also have liked to see how his mutilation had affected the plating, but this is not to be, as it is in landfill!
