Imperial - Metric Question

Hi guys,

Probably being a bit thick here, but it's monday and I'm feeling pooey, so bear with me!

Got an Art Deco pen kit here, which my colleagues have asked me to make for our outgoing boss.

Having measured the tube my 10mm drill bit will likely be too big. The kit says a 3/8" tube, but my best guess is (until I can measure accurately with calipers) 9mm may possibly be a smidge too small. Anyone know where I can get a 3/8" drill bit from or what the equivalent metric is? The couple of places I usually get pen gubbins from don't seem to stock 3/8" bits and the nearest I can get in relation to size would be 13/32 or 25/64. Which would be the best bet?

Cheers,

Confused of Surrey

Pedant alert.

3/8" is actually 9.525mm so there is a chance that a 9.5mm drill might leave the hole a touch tight. Check that the tube slides in freely before you try to glue it especially if you are using CA. It is always better to use the exact size if you can.

Thanks for all the responses. If the 9.5 mm is too tight, how would you rectify that? Bit of dowel with some sanpaper on to get the last increment?

It's a good idea to get a set of drill bits, walter posted a link to some, I think these are the same if it is not the same link Metric or Imperial

I was going to say that 3/8" is close enough to a 9.5mm drill etc etc
But everyone has beaten me to it :rolling:
If finances permit I would advise getting a set of both metric and imperial drill bits
