Okay, I said I would post up some pics of stuff I've turned so I have dug some out..

The candlestick is for my sister, turned from Cedar. I found cedar very pleasant to turn and once I'd removed my mask I could enjoy the scent of the wood. Very soft though, hence the dent on the ring where I've accidentally clopped it with summat.

Next is an Oak gavel I made for a friend. I wasn't happy with this, I felt rushed and as if I'd not made the best of the wood and the finish could have been better. Next time I will not rush to get it ready for a certain time, it really shows.

Lastly is a mallet for me to use in the (Indie) shed. It has a beech handle and Oak head, it is for using and the bands and the flare at the end of the handle are to stop it slipping from the hand.

No pens yet though chaps! I'm not rushing into this one! Or more accurately I'm waiting on some Imp drill bits then we are out o the blocks!

Thanks Twister and Jim, it has been a steep learning curve but one I am enjoying. I often find the days aren't long enough and there's always something I need for the lathe and the bank account ain't big enough!

The Oak came from a Farm Barn that is due for demolition, they had been stored on racking for at least 60 years. It was an unused fence post, It was about 5 feet long when I got it but it appears to be shrinking. :thinks:

Very nice selection there Inde, I am still wading through a field full of oak fence posts that were used for many years and still good for turning small stuff.
