David comes from Vietnam. Our Aussie accent is so easy to understand.

Sound advice is always well received thanks for the heads up.

Peter.

Interesting post - thanks!
I've found that a clean up with a small round modelers file has cured the problem for me when it's happened, and Gorilla glue seems to lubricate the blank as the brass is inserted.

Thanks for posting this one, Terry! It goes back to the old adage about not creating heat when you drill. It's good to be reminded, ennit?

I agree very informative

But Peter. There is a theory that the Australian accent is the original accent of working class Londoners, who made up the majority of 162,000 convicts transported to Australia from 1788
That's why it is so easy for us Poms to understand

In my family I would never know all free settlers big percentage of Scots, Irish some Brits others and no one could accuse the majority of them for being easy to understand, my Yorkshire mate used to say shall I speak with my aussie accent or my native Yorkshire or do you want to understand me.:goesred::goesred::chuckle: London was the departure centre for the English Government the majority of desparate people forced to come here were not Londoners. I share your sense of humour.

David has revolutionised the penmaking industry with his videos bringing incredible new meaning to service I note with interest how it influenced our member traders who portray these characteristics.

When forum members in the UK meet it must be exciting to swap stories I have just revelled in three days with my Guild and our Annual Exhibition the once a year Working With Wood Show had a ball picked up some unbelievable timber my all time Guru from the bush the most knowledgeable bloke I know spent time with him and his wife, nenewed and happy as.

All the best for the forum and diversity .

Peter.

I think the big thing to also think about is you need to buy good drills and it needs to be really sharp I have a 7 MM colt drill and when I got it I thought it was shit I had it sharpened at a specialist drill company and it was amazing after the cheap drills you buy from people like uk drill will never have been ground properly if you buy dommer, gurhing or ohio drills it will have been precision sharpened if the drills are good from uk drill why do you need pack of 5 or 10 buy it once and buy quality

Were you bitten by someone from UK Drills dog as a child Alex. You seem to have a down on them. They are not the best drills in the world but if they are all you can afford they do the job. Not everyone can afford a full set of Dormers at over £70 for a set of 1-13 in 0.5 increments.

You are not wrong, they are better quality, and if you are making hundreds of pens a week then they make sense, but an amateur who is only drilling wood and plastic will get by perfectly adequately with a cheaper set.

When I buy Dormer I mike them and buy the one either side in tiny measurements although the stamp them they are rarely spot on. However they are held in Canberra by a specialist firm and this helps me. The surprising quality in off the shelf drills is the DeWalt Extreme 2 my alltime best performing drills for a good price always be careful using them those ways can cut you.

Instead of the knife i use a small Half Round Taper file, using a throw away after 10 uses UK Drill piece .. :winking:
