Issues with twist mechanism

Hi
I thought I would make a Polaris for a friend - sorted the blank in Bocote tubed it, turner it, polished it and started pressing the components. All was ok til I came to press the twist mechanism.
I pressed it to the required depth but the mechanism seemed to be very stiff and the ink refil seemed to project too far out.
I removed the mechanism but it still seems too stiff.
Any ideas please

Regards

Fred

Hi Fred.

The statement above doesn't sound right.. :thinks:if you had pressed it in to the required depth then the nib would not project out too far:thinks:

Sounds like that is pushed in too far, maybe catching the rolled collar on the mech? :nooidea:

As for tightness, I have found some of the Parker type twist mechs have been tight due to colder weather and have worked better once they are inside and been used to warmed up.

I have had that problem with some mechanisms all I did was to operate it for a couple of minutes and it freed up. As for the nib sticking out to far normally I find this is down to pushing the mechanism in to far or trimming too much off of the blank when trimming down to the tube.

Thanks for comments
It turns out that the mechanism fphas failed - I had another kit and used that mechanism.
And yes Peter I shall check the mechanisms in future as it could have saved a lot of angst.
Finished pen - don't think I'll do any more - perhaps Grumpy was right :funny::banana:

By the way I always press the winder extended out have not had any failures after doing this. Using slims I also screw the biro in as well some winders have faulty threads.

Just found a batch of winders that press far to tight the tight part is not the pressing into the body of the pen but removing the top part to change the refill so never ending joy.
