Italian Acrylic and Wood

I have really liked this colour blank from the moment I got it but couldn't work out what to do with it. So I finally decided to pair it with Thuya burl.

Nothing too complicated here. The section is a bit of work but I have shown that before I think. Also getting the logo coin to fit nice and snug is always a satisfying thing.

I don’t do any polishing of the threads at all, before or after.

It’s just a case of nailing the technique with the tap and die. It did take me a good amount of practice and tweaking of measurements. It can be frustrating. Trust me, a lot of plastic has hit the wall in my workshop...

I think it was Edison who said something about genius being 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration, and while I’m certainly no genius, that ratio is about right in my experience of pen making.

I read your previous post and you’re on the right track and I do the same as you in loosening the grub screw to tighten the die on the second pass each time. It gives the threads a bit more depth and makes them cleaner which helps prevent any stiffness. Also different materials will behave differently. So stick to one and practice then move to something else once you’re satisfied. The fewer changing parameters you have the easier you’ll sleep at night.
