Yep, every year on the first Friday in November, it’s International Fountain Pen Day, and has been since it was introduced in 2012. This year, the first Friday in November is the 5th, which happens to be today.

Who introduced it? I have absolutely no idea, but unlike some other tenuous attempts at creating international something-or-other days, International Fountain Pen Day has definitely caught on in the psyche and consciousness of those who are in to fountain pens, and is now very much “a thing” every year.

So I thought it might be nice if we all posted a photo of a fountain pen we've made. It doesn't have to be one that's hot off the lathe, it can be one you've made in the past, but collectively we can do our bit to celebrate a day that helps drive the thing we like doing - making fountain pens.

Put a tag in your description please #fountainpenday and that way Google will also know what a dedicated bunch of pen heads we all are.

I'll start the ball rolling in the next post, and please do feel free to join in, or if you want to put yours in a new thread, please do, but remember the tag #fountainpenday

There's no competition, no judging, no prizes, just a way for Forum members to join in with Fountain Pen Day

I've not made a fountain pen before.

Those first two on show are beautiful.

I am sure if I made one and posted it here that would be the end of #Fountainpenday for ever.

At least I managed to get in #Fountainpenday not once but twice :face::ciggrin::ciggrin:

Make a fountain pen Gary! If you can turn a blank on a tube, you can turn blanks on two tubes just as easily. You just need to think through which component goes where, and there are plenty of folks here who can help you with that if you run into trouble. The turning itself though is no different in principle to any other pens you've turned.

Phil Dart for some reason I can't show a pen in this thread. I'll post one in another thread.

Alan
Not quite sure why that would be Alan. Thanks for posting it in a new thread though. Lets see if I can get it to appear here too

My contribution to #fountainpenday is a Little Black Number that I made quite some time ago. Black ebonite from Japan with a number five Schmidt nib and 12mm triple start threads. Capped it is 3 5/8"/92mm and ready to write is 4 7/8"/124mm.

I have some from a little way back. The last one now resides in the Blue Mountains of Oz

The first pen Derek is amazing :drool::drool:

The others are as well but the first one deserved a shout out :ciggrin::ciggrin:

Thank you Gary that was an enjoyable pen to turn as i had a part kit which I had robbed parts from and with the leftovers I made that one. Also that one and the last one are my own blanks that I cast.

Added a picture of it together

A great showing folks. Just because Fountain Pen Day was last Friday, don't stop them coming. I'm enjoying seeing peoples work being revisted.
