Here's a brushed copper Sirocco in Jarrah Burl.
I wanted to visually tie the kit into the blank, so I inlaid a metallic bronze band into the wood.
To put a bronze/copper/orange colour into the wood itself, the pen seems more complete, a whole item.
The Jarrah is beautiful to work, so dense and fine.
Sanded to 1000 grit, two coats of sanding sealer, four of Melamine, Carnuba topcoat.

I know what you're saying.
I tried them out in tape strips, and bands the same width as the metal ones were too chunky. Started to look like bee stripes :)
Plus, wide bands of the bronze coloured resin starts to look a bit toylike.
this is a compromise....

That is a nice idea and well executed. Looks a lovely pen. I have never been over keen on a copper finish but this might well change my opinion. I like the way you have positioned the band, it does enhance the flow.

To kick established ways proved overwhelming success IMHO. The thing is you licked that burl into a new horizon. About the best I have seen.

You know...I gave this a "thumbs up" earlier this evening because I was in a hurry and then went back to school for a board meeting...where I sat and thought about this pen instead of paying attention. Got home, poured a rocks glass to the brim, and logged back in just to tell you, "Beautiful." You stepped away from "normal." Whenever someone does that, it escapes some, draws criticism from others and inspires yet another group. I number among the last group. Beautiful work.
(Now I need call my secretary to figure out what the hell happened at my board meeting while I was daydreaming. I think they're discussing my contract extension...but I really just want to learn about Melamine!)
