10X covers most things for me the higher the loupe number the less depth of focus you get handiest item can be the mag lamps that have even smaller magnification but are well lit so there is no glare in the eyes. Horses for courses mate what do you need to magnify eg I buy those cheap 4X glasses for stripping watches with jewelers screwdrivers etc, I have a 10X loupe and some various mag lamps for splinter removal etc where I need both hands. I drive with no glasses but use them for reading and the computer cause I find the computer does not spell correctly any more.

I have a 15x for metal detecting finds but sometimes find it a bit too strong and as Peter said the focal depth is quite narrow.

In a long gone previous life, I qualified as a Lithographer!
8x was recommended as the optimum then.

X 10 is the one I have though I didn't buy it as it was a gift. Suits me fine.

I'm same as you, was very short sighted (- 5.5 & - 6.0) and had laser treatment about 7 years ago. Can read ok but eyes get tired and need 1.5 specs for close up. 20 / 20 vision is astonishing after being short sighted since childhood and worth every penny:thumbs:
