Warning, Warning, Warning - Kit Quality discussion..

gent3LP-02.JPG

Now as Peter decided to finish his Gent off and put a good report up for everyoe to see a comparison.

Well I'm now going to add another one to muddle the waters.

This one is a new Dayacom kit that is supplied by CSUSA.

You wll notice that the thread is black, yes its black but not plastic, its painted metal thread. Now why paint them.

In short its painted because it saves the cost of putting the plating on the threads so makes the kit cheaper to produce. now I'm not a happy bunny about this as it seems as though even CSUSA are now turning to cheaper pen kits.:nonono:

In the scheme of thing it possibly only a few pence more per kit to have it plated the same as the main parts so I cant see the benefits.

When building the kit up the nib section would not screw in due to there being a problem with the internal thread in the coupler. I had to re-tap it out and repair the thread so I could insert the nib feed, not a happy bunny part two. :nonono:

So all in all the older CSUSa Daycom kits are the better quality kits.

Well it seems as though another supplies is joining the the fleets of suppliers and providing substandard quality kits.

So that is another kit that I won't be buying again unless they replace it with a plated version again.

Second picture so you can see the LP.. Added after Woodys comment..

It is cracking pen Eamonn such a shame about the down grading of the thread. You've turned it lovely with that LP:thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:

You have reminded me that the sedona that I posted today had brass showing through the black paint on the bottom finial and cap coupling and I used a permanent magic marker to disguise it. It really is a false economy.

Do you fine the black accent is important to the design?

I personaly can't see the point of the black accent where it is, and TBH doesn't add anything to the kit. That's my opinion.

If they wanted it to be an accent then the quality of the coating should also be a better quality rather than a paint.

Yes it does have a plastic thread screwing down on it so theoretically it shouldn't wear away, but if you ask others that have seen this on other kits it does wear or scratch.

Check Peters (buckeye) thread on the comparisons, that will show the differences between the kits. Add this one to the pot and you will see the difference.

When I get back I can add other pictures if you need any. Peter has some as well that could add to this thread.. (Forum one that is) :face:

I will source a decent one and send it off.
