One manufacturer has changed the sizes of their JR G tubes to 12.1 and 10,4 OD, which is an increase of just over half a mil on both tubes. Be warned if you buy JR gents from ebay sources or other resellers as the old sizes are in the process of being exhausted and the new ones introduced. Any old spares that you have, such as the centre bands will of course not fit the new pens.

The new sizes are justified in that the centre band materials and the thread is reported to be a significant improvement on the old style.

I will have to check the original JR tube size, i know for the original JR I used drill size was 12.5 and 10.5 Neil.

The apprentice JR had the smaller tubes..:thinks:

The apprentice pre dates me Eamonn, but it sounds as though some may now be returning to the original dims. I have some of the new style but haven't got round to making them up as I still have stock of the 15/32 and 25/64 dim tube kits.

The apprentice is a new ( last 3 years or so) kit and a smaller kit with the 15/32 and 25/64 tubes than the original JR. which was 1/2 and 13/32 tubes. Neil.

I wonder if you have brought from a supplier that is now supplying the original JR gent kit...thinks:

I emailed Rizheng when they first put up the new sizes and they said they would continue to make both, but I am not sure I believe that.

They speak with forked tongue!

.................. old JR pens, it is the one that take 25/64 and 15/32 drill bit . Yes, we will discontinue the old style, but we can also produce for you if you want to order large.

The new drill bit for the new upgraded JR pens are being produced now and will be ready after about 20days.

You pay, we make anything! Its a non stock item, probably minimum order quantity of around 250?

It didn't make sense to me that they would continue with both, there would be so many opportunities for mix ups.

Eamonn,

The kits Rizheng have been supplying are 15/32 and 25/64, same as the Timberbits pens which I suspect are from Ace Pens although I am not totally sure. The new spec from Rizheng is: The dia. of both tubes is increased by 0.6mm than the old series, that is ,now the tubes' size is 12.1*11.6*46.2mm and 10.4*9.9*53.4mm.

Thanks guys I measure every kit aqnd turn to fit but am now more aware.

Thanks..... Peter.:thumbs::thumbs:

They only seem to have chrome available, so maybe they are phasing it in, they still have to sell the old stock so it may be awhile before it's mainstream.

Then they are nearly the same as the old original JR. Dayacom Gent kit as they measure 12.3 and 10.2. :thinks:

I wonder why they are making them nearly the same size as the original JR.. :thinks:

The new smaller size (15/32 & 25/64) you refer to above as I remember came out as a copy to the Daycom. Now marketed as the "Apprentice" kit. by CSUSA..

interesting to know they are changing and we need to be aware of it and thanks for bringing that. when I buy my next ones I will make sure I have the right bushes for them.

just another spanner in the works for us to make sure we buy bushes with every new set of pens we buy as we will never be sure we are getting the same kit..

It's called development, or penny pinching.. One or tuther.

Eamonn,

This is another snippett of Chinglish from their website:

There are some improvements on the threads in centerband and nib, the pen will work better.
