Today, after yesterdays epic fail I decided to do another Jr Gent with CA finish whilst taking on board some of the advice given to me from Walter & Neil, at least, today I have managed to get the kit done without getting any bushes stuck to the tubes.

The kit I used is from Pen_Kits UK a Jr Gent Rollerball with Titanium Gold Plating (this is advertised as a premium upgrade) I paid a premium £6 but what a difference, a far superior kit, no problems with threads or glue all over the place.

The pen is dressed in Cocobolo with a CA finish, wasn't sure about putting the gold on a dark wood but i'm reasonably happy with it, I think the gloss finish from the CA helps. Although need to improve CA application still not right.

Lovely job Billy. I am still not too keen on having a go with the CA but I must admit you've got a great Finnish on that pen.

I have never tried the CA finish but seen it demonstrated at the club today. I should try it soon.

I think this is only the fifth CA one I have done and I have had a few problems, like getting the bushes stick to the barrels, using to much CA etc but the guys on here keep pointing me in the right direction. I can see a finish I want is there with the CA (but not quite yet) so will persevere, I think it will come right in the end.

Give it ago :thinks::thinks::thinks:

Billy you have broken the mystery of CA I have read hundreds of ways used by pen makers over the years to use it, yesterday shortly before finishing I applied Les Elms suggestion again using shavings just before applying the CA the pens came up no end better for me. Like the Google like aerial view of two of your pics gives a different perspective to your pen easy to see. The Cocobolo was grown in a good paddock unusual growth rings contribute to a neat pen.
