Turned these pens today, the kit quality is exceptional. The thread is painted metal, very smooth and the plating is of good quality to the extent that it gives a real depth of colour if that makes sense. Turned these two out of deliberately contrasting woods, a dynamic vibrant Brazillian Tulipwood and an otherwise drab bit of oak. Both were sanded to 400 and had two coats of CA and micro meshed through the range and finished finally with a polish with Chestnut burnishing cream which I swear by!

I am very impressed with the outcome. Will be ordering another fifty of these kits shortly.

Just to mention that the lines running perpendicular to the grain are not scratch marks but the ripple effect you get with Brazillian Tulipwood. The tree is more shrub like in size and is susceptible to wind movement and hence the resulting ripple effect.

Spill the beans then who is making good quality kits at last?

Brian,

I need to drop some blanks to you tomorrow morning if thats ok - can you take them to York for me? I'll bring these pens round and a kit and ask you for your critique, then I'll tell you where I got them.

Jim,

Agree, they are streets ahead, and I thought that this was where David got his cheaper kits from, but apparently not. Have you the gold and chrome? Are they the same quality in terms of the plating? The other platings? Have you tried them?
