If you don't have the polygem dust, or want different colors you can use embossing powder to do the same thing.  I use the black embossing powder to fill small cracks in dark wood, as well.  When I do turquoise fill I often dust the cavity with black embossing powder before inlaying the crushed turquoise.  The result is a fine black outline around the turquoise.  It works to make bands on wooden pens the same way...just cut a groove and fill it with the powder and thin ca.
