Is the bleed from the finish smearing dust ? Or did finish dissolve resins and get mixed into surface Alan ?

still looks fantastic but I understand the slight touch of irksomeness ( is that a word?)

Ian, there is always a problem sanding a dark timber beside a white ( Sycamore ) especially when the darker timber is quite porous.
I had to apply a few coats of sanding sealer prior to sanding and then clean after each grit.
