Just an update

This is just an update on the progress of the tractor and loco now that the truck is complete.

I have managed to start assembly of the loco and spent about 2 1/2hours turning all of the wheels for loco and tender 18 in all. As you can see it is starting to look the part.

The tractor came to a standstill while waiting for some milling cutters that turned up the wrong size and had to return them for the correct size which I ordered. I have now been able to cut the slots for the grill so that I can now progress with the build and maybe that will also start to look the part.

I can never get bored especially with two or three projects on the go at the same time

Those 4 'drive' wheels must have cost an arm and a leg in patience and as for inserting a dark block into a light block just to get the grid effet well you must have the patience of a saint.

The tractor front took ages as each slot took 4 passes to get them to depth I used a 2mm (3/64") milling cutter to a depth of 13mm(1/2") a very fine cutter that is why I took it steady and allowed the cutter to work at its pace. I did have a second cutter just as a spare in case the first broke luckily no problems. I then had to plane some walnut down to the same thickness and shape these before glueing in place.

The loco wheels were easier than the tractor grid and really took no time at all once I worked out the order of turning and making simple jigs for holding them on the lathe. They must have taken a good 3/4 of an hour just to make those.
