When you have turned the wood and marked the position of the grain do you match the grain for when the point is turned OUT or when turned IN ???????:

I always align the grain in my twist pens with the refill in (retracted), because that's how it will be displayed, how it will be presented to the recipient if its a gift, and how it will spend the majority of its time.:bwink:

Good question Glen, I always display my pens with the nib in so line the grain that way.

Odd one out I maybe but when I hand a pen to any one for whatever reason I always extend the nib and so my grain matching follows this reasoning. This habit became necessary when casually handing a closed pen has resulted in heavy handed and wrecking treatment by the potential user some disastrous. It is that first impression that lasts for most of us the immediate reaction to receiving is to turn the pen in the hand to catch the light and more fully appreciate the pen offered. So for me ready to use.

I can see with two piece pens posting the top is a mixed feast in that it depends with multi threading how it posts to the grain alignment. My carry pen always gets a gasp and is set for the best impression opened. On the other hand I am not making pens to sell sell sell there is no sales pressure applied by me.
