Messing with my website I came across this old pic of a ply pen, it reminded it was the one my grandson Sam did with some of the military ply that was on the floor of the workshop.
He showed great ingenuity in dragging from a skip an old Clarke lathe that the factory next door had thrown out.

With their help and mine he rebuilt it and got it working with a base and put a chuck on it, he used cable ties for a belt and turned a few items, one of which is a ply candle thingy still in my shed unfinished.
The pics of the project are long gone but were shown on another forum at the time, some may remember.

He was a schoolkid at the time and did this in my unit which I closed in 2008, he is now 22 residing in New Zealand working as an architect.
I would like to claim this as the original military ply pen on his behalf and where the idea first came from, unless you know different.

I have sent muchly ply out to people over the years and only seen pens from Woody and Paul M.
How about you making yours up and sending em to Bill, hope he can get £100 each for Blind Veterans init?

C'mon show us yours, I won't laugh, honest!!!

I have about 30 blanks here if anyone wants to have a go, PM me your address and pay postage and you can have a few init?

Well said Brian...love the center band...must try some ply again.
We all thought that was a bit overkill for belt and cut them to half that thickness but whatever rocks your boat iinit?
The blanks I have a probably the last of my 48 or so ply sheets and are not the best of them but still good enuf to gets some nice pens from.
PM received Vic, I'll sort some and weigh them for postage mate.

Thanks for showing Brian.

It's obvious you are very proud of your grandson and so you should be, bet he got a real sense of achievement out of it.

I like the idea of the C/B going the opposite way to the frame Brian, i have stated before how such wood can make such nice pens as these shown on the forums lately ..
