This is my first attempt at producing my own pen blank in Polymer Clay.
Don't know what you think Walter, I followed the instructions in your book !
I first put a Fimo Polymer Clay Base on a 9mm Australiana Elegant Beauty tube.
Using some Millefiori cane I then covered the tube as per Walters instructions.

30 mins in the oven at 110 C and this is what I ended up with !

Will put it on the lathe tomorrow and see how we go.

sorry about the picture quality.

That looks fantastic Vic, whatever you do don't send it to Brian, he will be in love with you forever:funny:

It does look really nice, did it take long for you to make it prior to cooking it?

Hi Peter, It took me about 10 mins to prepare before cooking. I did not have to make the roses up they came ready made and all I had to do was slice it up stick it to the tube and roll it out.

Okay, I thought you had made the cane. Where did you get it from? It still doesn't take anything away from that blank, It's a cracker. Are you planning on doing a tutorial or are you waiting until you have made your own canes?

Peter, there is no way that I have the skills or patience to make my own canes ! Walter put me onto a supplier named Ronit Golan an artist from Isreal. Her Webb address is RonitGolan.etsy.com she has some fantastic canes at what I think are very acceptable prices. It would take me a lifetime to produce what she does. All in with the base clay and cane I estimate about £2 per blank. I wasted a bit as this was my first attempt so I recon you can trim this down a bit as you get better with the rolling process.

I intend to use these blanks to make Xmas gifts for the Mrs, Daughter, Grandaughter, and Daughter in Law.

Have a look at youtube, there are loads of videos about making canes and it doesn't look too hard, a bit of practice and I am sure you will hack it, or make it a project for the wife or daughters and grandaughter. It's been on my to do list for a long time. I will wait a bit longer and see what you do with yours:thumbs:

I have tried a few polymer clay pens but found it very brittle and will break easily, when I did try I found it better to bake them with the tube in rather than drilling them afterwards if that's any help

Yep I moulded the clay around the brass tube. Using the bushes as a guide for the thickness of the clay that you use I will only need to sand it down to the finished size.
