Here is my first attempt at a Kallenshaan laser cut inlay kit for a Sierra pen in black titanium and gold. The background wood is fiddle-back koa and the woods used for the fiddle are Cocobolo and black dyed spalted maple. I am hoping that these pens will find a ready market among my many fiddle-playing friends and acquaintances. It wasn't that difficult to assemble - a lot easier than the beagle pen kit that I am currently making for a nephew.

I like 'em...some are harder than others easy to turn and good fun all round, just difficult to get your money back on:devil:

Another string to your bow Bob and a worthy one I do think the main timber is Maple excellent turning.

Peter.

I don't pretend to be an expert on identifying woods, Peter, but the instructions provided by Kallenshaan state that the barrel is made from koa. It is not a wood that I have used before and it had a 'fluffy' surface (for the want of a better word) before being turned to size, which I have not encountered with maple on the occasions when I have used it.

No biggie mate I love it anyway Koa is related to our Blackwood to see it in such a clear light colour is a delight mate.

Peter.
