Keepsake Box
Wedding Rings Box
these are not as planned, and far from what I had envisaged

hope they get Daughter approval :fingers:

The box is american black walnut sides
the lid is I think Oak..it was a dirty board when i started and I am still not 100% sure

mitred corners with splines in contrasting veneer

the top and bottom are "raised panel" (well that what I call them )
the top one was routed to fit grooves and then a V groove router bit to put an angle on them

the lidded box was version 3 :rolling:

the lidded ring box is a piece of "pomelle"

unfinished inside as of yet

The Brass Hardware was from Brian ...I do hope I have done them Justice

thankyou Grumps & Keith

Steve

Looks good Steve except one thing and that is I would put some finish on the inside of the turned box as it looks like you have not done so.

turned box is unfinished inside

2 reasons...run out of time :face:
I was going to wait till nearer the time
the lid is a very tight fit at moment
thought i would let it settle and loosen it a bit with some sandpaper and a bit of wax
the inside will end up with some blue foam or something inside to hold rings
Steve

forgot to say..the bottom of the main box will get a blue cloth base put in it

Hi Brian

glad u approve
yes the hinge should go inside apparently
but what is the point
a nicely engraved hinge just to be hidden
this was a major dilemma for me with the hinge
i did consider all options including cutting it in to the woodwork

nope it goes on the outside...job done

Steve

p.s. that handle was a royal pain to fit

Steve with the unusual handle ,hinge magnets to keep the box tidy and closed consideration you applied to making it your daughter will be blessed to receive it the ring box grain leaps out and says entrust your ring here. Went to an upholstery firm years ago and bought some bags of Egyption leather offcuts for cheap that glued in the bottom of a box give a real top finish as well.My mate Eugene of the 10.000 dollar document upwards boxes uses the same supplier to fit the leather in his boxes. Trust the wedding goes well mate as the father of five girls and a son my experience is the gifts you make for them are cherished above all.

Can't make you wrong on anything you say there mate, glad it's gone to a good use.
A very special box to be cherished by your daughter and hopefully passed on as heirloom as was intended for the original.

What's not to like about those! She'll love it Steve.:claps:
Bet it makes it to the antiques show in a few hundred years down the line.
