I am about to build my 2 year old grandson one of the old push karts we had as kids in the 50s n 60s. Had a quick check on wheels from prams !!!!!!! the price, a set of four £158.00, i could but a set of car alloys for that. And pram prices, my first bloody car was cheaper than prams are, i had an 1100 that cost £25.00 bloody beautiful ride that gave.
I am truly amazed at the prices of the wheels. Second hand prams are not cheap either, i have tried the normal places like gumtree and preloved, think i will try the charity shops, they may take pity on a pensioner.

Just a thought i have some old sawdust in the shed, think i will sell it for £500.00, there must be some mug out there that will buy it,

What kind of a world do we live in now.

We used to make them when we were kids Ken. The prams used to be sourced from the rubbish tip.

Well, done the rounds of charity shops and could not find any, then tried the dump and bingo. Found a scooter with about 8in wheels (will need two more)
Made a donation of three quid for the scooter, took it home and removed the wheels, will return with carcass tomorrow.
Just got to find out what thread the spindles are now.

Crikey, that takes me back! We had great fun as kids making these in the 60s. All parts were found/scrounged and cost nothing because all pocket money went on pop and sweets. Two sets of wheels, a long plank, two short planks, a nut & bolt, a few nails and a piece of rope - it was done! Had weeks, months of fun. In the north such a cart was called a 'bogie', a word with a quite different meaning in the south...

The best ones were big pram wheels on the back and smaller ones on the front, looked pretty cool. An orange box for the seat, planks were old floorboards we scrounged from builders who were knocking down houses and having no drill available for the bolt holes we used to borrow the house poker, build a fire and burn the holes.
I fashioned a brake but was only on one rear wheel and first time I used it managed to overturn the cart and scrape my knuckles down to the bone. We used to go at what seemed a hell of a speed.

And the kids can't even play conkers these days for H&S :rolling:

Lol, yes i remember my cousins one, he lived in Brockenhurst and they had this really steep along side a graveyard. The speed was something else, suicidal even lol. your right about parts being less that cheap, just throw away stuff, not these days though.
Any way i have two wheels off of a scooter from the dump, ball raced, runs lie a Rolls, couldn't resist the pun.

hawkeyefxr I used 4 14” bicycle wheels.

Got them from the guy at the local tip. Paid just £10 for them.

When I get back I will put a couple pic up of it.

Even planned to put brakes on them for him but he didn’t want them. Kids today eh! :funny:

Go kart with Bike wheels

hawkeyefxr here you go.

Got 4 bike wheels for £10. I think they are 12" for the front and 14" for the back Off different bikes. All you need to do is remove the gear set off the rear wheel to make it safe (eeerr):whistling:

Used some hardwood blocks to make saddle bearing holders then bolted the wheels through them using the original wheel nuts so protecting the bearings.

Pic one has back wheels fitted

Pic 2 showing the blocks.. (And the compulsory "pencil behind ear" look, bless him)

Fitted an old plastic seat on it that I picked up from a car boot sale for £2. Had the usual string steering as well. Would get a finished pic but its in his garage waiting for this years local soap box run..:winking:
