Made a few kitless pens in the last week or so, and I am still very new to this.

My main challenge with the first few was the finish on the external barrel threads. Even though they cut cleanly they were always looking a bit lacklustre compared to the rest of the barrel once I’d finished sanding and polishing as I was avoiding them for fear of wearing them down ?. However I’ve taken to lightly sanding them once I get to the higher grit micro pads, as I did with this pen, and it seems to work with no notable detriment to the threads. Of course any alternative opinions or advice on this from this learned forum is very welcome!

Fitted with a Bock #5 nib.

Very nice.....these are getting better and better.....as above I use Farcla car compound instead of MM and TBH saves me a lot of time if done right. I had never thought of putting it on a toothbrush but it should/would work. Good luck and interested to see your next one:drool::drool:

...or make a corresponding female thread in a piece of scrap acrylic and use it to work some lapping compound over the male thread.

Many thanks to you for your replies to this, I’m really grateful for the advice. I have to admit that I had never had to deal with finishing plastics/acrylics etc. until I got into this ridiculous pen making obsession I now have... Please tell me I will grow out of it soon?

Meanwhile looks like I’ll be off to Halfords in the morning .
