I liked the first black and chrome pen I made so much, I decided to make another. This one is a Knurl GT pen in black and chrome. I ordered an all chrome kit, but they sent the wrong one. Still, I like the look. The blank is a Rhino called Coal Mine.

Oh that's really nice Jim, love the sleek black finish. I was thinking of ways to darken the chrome like that myself, didn't realise that they actually did it straight out as a kit!

Only problem I've got with the Knurls is that the clip on my own tester one, which has been carried for a week or two now, came loose and required the clip section to be disassembled and glued, also the clip is a bit weak in the knees, it doesn't stay rigid to the body anymore.

As with the last Rhino blank I turned, I trimmed this one on the bandsaw first. It really reduces the turning time. I always trim the corners of all acrylic blanks, but "slicing" some of the width off really makes a difference. This isn't necessary, but I'm impatient. LOL

This is the fifth or sixth Knurl I've turned, and haven't had a problem with any of them. The transmissions are all very smooth, and none of the parts have come loose. But then I turn so many pens for myself, none of them see a lot of use.

I've turned (thinks for a sec) three of them, one chrome where the friction of the mechanism was stronger than the friction holding the mechanism into the body, had to threadlock (purple low-strength) the mechanism into that one. Two other gunmetals didn't have the same mechanism issue but I've had fun with that clip on mine. Got another three or four kits of mixed finishes so will be interesting to compare any other differences. Love it as a kit in terms of looks, weight and feel, get a good few compliments on them. Where did you source the black/chrome kit btw?

I'm in the States, and most of the suppliers that sell the Knurl kits sell them in the chrome/black finish. I don't know about UK suppliers.
