Hello again,
Todays pens are 5 Streamlines in Laburnum.
Following on from the advice from my last post I have photographed them outside, during the day,
and cropped the pictures a bit.
Feel free to comment on pens or photos.
Regards
Ivor

A lovely set of pens there, all nicely turned and finished. The levels of the photos could do with a bit of tweeking and in my opinion a plain background would be better so that there isn't any distraction from the pens.

All I've done here is change the levels slightly

In another observation, I see that the light source is behind the pen making a shadow in front of it which also stops the pen looking as good as it is.

Lovely set of pens Ivor. I make no comment on photos as I am in the process of improving the crap that I have posted in the past

Ha ha, either you're blind or insane...

If you honestly think you have improved the photograph, you need to have your monitor calibrated, all you have done is increased the contrast far too much and introduced a white balance that isn't as good as the original.

A suggestion....

Instead of being negative about things all the time... why not try to be positive and if you see something wrong give some constructive criticism or offer advice??????

At least I try to help as much as I can.

I agree with Paul as regards both pens and photography. An easy way to make a good background is to paint a piece of plywood or hardboard white or a neutral shade of light grey.

I was being positive, you have positively made the image worse not better, I did point it out to you, but you got abusive again saying I must be blind or insane. Instead of trying to improve images that really didn't need it, why don't you practice what you are trying to preach and improve yours. If you want help you only have to ask.

Perhaps Paul's adjustments were a little more than was needed, but the image he has altered (before he altered it) does look a little overexposed by comparison with the same pen in the main (bottom) photograph which appears better exposed (to me). I certainly agree with his comments as regards the background and shadows, both of which are distracting from some very nice pens.

I apologise for getting abusive I get fed up at your persistent negativity and just think that you could do more to help instead of just saying that's not right all the time. You profess to be be a professional at photography, why not do a tutorial for everyone instead of knocking those who try to help?

I don't want help with mine, I'm happy with my results thanks however if there are changes that could be made that would fit in with getting from posing the pen to uploading to the forum in a minute or so then I'd be happy to accept help.

Just as a thought... you do realise that the one I changed was the top photo and not the bottom one?

You seem to view persistent negativity as something or someone that is not in agreement with you, to me you are negative, especially about the great photos that were posted, sure they could have been slightly improved, but the photos as they were posted are head and shoulders better than your photos and yet you seem to think that making them worse is trying to help. I told you that it wasn't an improvement, you got abusive, now you are saying I am the negative one, you could have asked why it I thought it wasn't an improvement, but you got abusive and that is negative.

As for a tutorial, that is not going to happen, you made your feelings clear about my photographic advice long ago. I have helped members with their photography and when I have been asked to help I have never refused, I will continue to do that, but I won't pretend that I can do something that I can't.

Nicely turned & finished pens Ivor.

& well done on improving on your photos from last time, it isn't easy getting it right all the time and it is all a learning curve.
You don't need photos that can hang in the Tate gallery yet and as long as we improve a bit each time then all is good!!:banana:

I'm not going to keep on, this is my last post about this and will give you the last word. I said nothing negative about the pens at all but how did I know you would start slagging my photography :funny::funny:

You really do need to take a look at yourself you don't give advice just negative comments.

May I apologise for the state that this thread has gotten into and just say that the pens are good and the comments I made about the pens and the change I made stands. I didn't ever say that this is exactly what it should be but gave a pointer as to how to improve the pictures by making a quick change which you asked for knowing that only one or two people would help one of which wouldn't be the so called professional.
