Perhaps Paul's adjustments were a little more than was needed, but the image he has altered (before he altered it) does look a little overexposed by comparison with the same pen in the main (bottom) photograph which appears better exposed (to me). I certainly agree with his comments as regards the background and shadows, both of which are distracting from some very nice pens.
