Larger grain pattern

If you have a piece of wood with what I would call a larger grain pattern on it do you save these for larger diameter pens so you get the best out of the wood grain.

Simply cut it across the grain , works for me.

I don't often make bigger pens so I cut the blank to get the best figuring out of it.

Hard to say with out seeing the wood, I would go with larger pen kits.
