Lathe chucks

I have about 5 Nova chucks (hate changing jaws) and needed another for a different set of jaws.
Because of availability and price bought a Record SC4 companion chuck.
Build quality is on par with Nova but the best part is that it closes clockwise instead of the abnormal CCW of the Nova.
Hated the wrong way around thing so this is much more intuitive. Can use it without thinking twice.
Must have something to do with different hemispheres.
If I need another chuck it will be a Record.

Water swirls down the plug hole the other way down there too apparently. (just saying)

Interesting to hear both chicks are a similar build quality.

Not sure what lathe you have but I have recently brought a versa chuck, the advantage is you can change the backplate to suit the lathe and also you can buy jaw carriers to suit a number of manufactures jaws. I use Robert Sorby and Axminster jaws on the chuck just undo the chuck so each jaw comes out offer up the new ones in correct number sequence a 1 minute job well not even that.
HERE is the one I am talking about and as can be seen there are a number of carriers for various jaws.

Ha Ha. Funilly enough I use a Versachuck Derek. Did you remember that from somewhere or are you stabbing in the dark?

Lathe is a 1954 Wadkin RS6 with variable speed.
I am open to correction but Nova, Record, Oneway, Versachuck, Vicmarc, Axminster all have compatible jaws and
adapter inserts to suit different lathe spindle threads.
Their chuck bodies do have different closing/opening rotations though.
My point was that for me the CW closing is far easier to use than the CCW.
Righty tighty - lefty loosy just like a bolt or screw.
This is why I like the Record above the Nova's that I have.

The Versa chuck does close with a clockwise twist of the key just out of interest

I have a Versa as well as 3 Axi chucks. The versa is based on the Axi precision chuck which is now defunct.
