Just had a slimline pen refill leak, luckily it was on the first pen I turned which the wife had. Had to clean the inside out and luckily never stained the wood.
Kind of got me thinking, as people get more experienced with pen making, do you turn away from the cheaper pen kits, the ones with the thin screw in ink refill and go for the dearer kits with the Parker style refills?
Or just a mixture of both type of kits.

Over time you will find your trusted suppliers and that will hopefully lead to better quality....
Mine are Beaufort ink, Penkitzandbitz, Taylors Mirfield and Axminster...I also import a few bits from the US as required :bwink:

Don't forget that the new Jetstream from Beaufort is similar (I think) to a Slimline pen and it also uses a Parker refill. Think it's far better than the Slimline pen.... I still have them but no longer use them except for the Bullet Pens ........

I’ve just gone through the process of moving to slightly more expensive kits and what I have found is that a small increase in spend per pen kit brings a massive upgrade in quality. I use all the normal suppliers like Axminster but my personal favourite is Procraft who produce kits that differ design wise that I haven’t found elsewhere. I now look for premium materials in the construction like quality plating and solid brass etc.
