George from Georges-bits-of-timber in the Adelaide hills sent me some blanks including this red mallee from a voucher I was given. It also included Lucerne ( believe it or not )
Golden Wattle and a couple of others.
Have you any experience turning Lucerne?

I was mystifyed as I have never seen or heard of it before. George lives in the Adelaide hills in an area settled in the 1800,s with a different climate altogether than where I have lived here for 75 yrs.
Chamaecytisis palmensis is a giant tree in Africa it has amazing growth characteristics and New Zealand grows and exports large numbers of bare rooted seedlings.
The trees origen is the Canary Islands. In NZ it is handy since it flowers before the fruiting trees blossom ,planted in the hope it will satisfy damaging protected pidgeons that can decimate fruit blossom. Protection in any even small success is vital for the blossom also kicks in the bee population,serious needs everywhere to promote bees to set the fruit by pollination.
Together with other members I anticipate the mock Lucerne tree will provide interesting pens. George good fellow that he is would surely like your comments and feedback. Mark from the Creek is a personal friend of George as I am.He is one of the good guys.

Peter. According to George the Lucerne blank that I got came from lucerne ( the cattle forage crop ) which is known botanically as Cytisus proliferus and field grown extensively in Australia. The material he had came from some lucerne which was allowed to grow into a large shrub.
A relative is Cytisus scoparius which grows wild in the British Isles and is known commonly as Broom as the twiggy branches were tied together around a larger shaft ( broomstick) and used to sweep out houses.

Since I replied earlier my wife mentioned her mothers family had a huge lucerne tree in their yard,she has generation pics with itb in the background. Seems we all learned a bit from your win on the IAP.

The bloke I was working for, I ask his sister out once and she has been hanging around for the last 30 odd years or so.

Next time that you're talking to George tell him that some Irish fella is putting up pictures of pens made with his blanks.
I like what he sent me and will order more when I can afford the postage from Australia.

I love the stories from George's stable. Excellent blank, well done with the turning. Very nice finish. I probably have 20 blanks and 30 blocks from our Mate George! Hope to put them to good use in the future as I have.

Mark, I put a photograph of a pen I made using Golden Wattle from George on IAP. He posted an interesting story about that particular blank, where it came from and details about the tree's different colour characteristics.
