SWMBO has had an idea.............. I always cringe when this happens because it will usually be either painful or expensive sometimes both together.

So, she said, "we could do with a lightshade in the living room, could you turn one ?" (Ceiling rose type light on a short cord)

So........ could I ?

What do I have to watch out for ? I guess making it reflective would involve painting the inside ? With what though? Any other ideas?

All thoughts and suggestions welcomed.

Umm, I think I would get rid of the current SWMBO and get a less demanding one... maybe one who likes pens and the occasional bowl... Please don't show her this post

Cheers Andy, just found that myself.

Problem is, if I need a lathe that big this will be the worlds most expensive lightshade :sob:

Still, good excuse to plead, beg for the Maxi

Or you could try a bit of cooperage as in barrel making or even just a couple of rings with slats attached result might just be peace and quiet for a couple of hours and mucho brownie points:winking:

Price the job, including the requirement for a new lathe - she will see it is an outrageous cost just for a bloody light shade, so then take her to Homebase, buy a lightshade, then get a new lathe with the money you've saved. Simple.

Say you need more shed time to practice thin walled turning, make some nice bowls and enjoy yourself.
If you eventually happen to go too thin and break through the bottom, you have your lampshade!

Waste not want not as they say in Swaziland.
Drain chucked an old small stainless steel saucepan out, it's now a good hardwearing shed light and she wants indoors with a matching floor standing reading / knitting light.
