My old mum asked me to make a small box she can carry in her handbag for her medication. Having no chuck i had to mess about to turn this. Think the wood is sapele but may be wrong. Think I need to get some proper finishing products for this type of work any suggestions welcome.

It looks like sapele Keith and you’ve made a good job of it. For a finish I’d use danish oil or melamine lacquer.

Nice little box. The only thing I would say is have you made it a pop fit as if not it can fall open in her bag and everything will fall out. For something like this I would prefer a screw lid

Thanks for the nice feed back guys. Yes Derek it's a tightish fit
but not to tight as she has arthritis in both hand. I added light coat of wax to the tenon to help with opening.

A very nice little box Keith. Make the finish foodsafe because of the pills. I would use cooking oil because you don’t want the taste or smell of the finish leeching into the pills. Don’t use olive oil as it goes rancid.
