I was coming to the end of a full day teaching yesterday when the wood fairy turned up with this.

It's approx 10" diameter.

Burr_533x480.jpg

It's a root burr from a Lleylandii, very common apparently but not seen so much as the roots are normally left in situ as they don't sucker and just rot away. Another two were found as the roots of an old hedge were dug out but they had already gone too far. They can be hollow and a bit disappointing but we'll have to wait and see.

So what’s the plan? ....

It seems there will soon be one Cypress Hedge tree per person in the Uk,so supply would seem to be assured. We have a tall hedge around our house so when across the road became 5 two story units ,bliss for our privacy and shade in the summer. First day of Autumn and 30,s forecast for the week.

Chap wanted a bowl out of half of it but now I've debarked it and seen how it is made up there would be lots of waste to make two small bowls so I'm just going to turn it and see what happens. It won't be in the next few days as a lovely young lady who came on a course last week left me with her cold so I'm having to have a few days off to be well enough to teach the courses booked in next week.:rolling:

Marra is an Australian Aboriginal language, traditionally spoken on an area of the Gulf of Carpentaria coast in the Northern Territory around the Roper, Towns and Limmen Bight Rivers. :mooney::ciggrin:

Naaa...,:rolling: It's an English Georgie expression for mate, friend, buddy, workmate.
Abbos must have been deported to OZ:winking::ciggrin:
