Knocked this up in 5 mins and cut it on the laser, not bad for a first attempt, I couldn't find a ruler so guessed the sizes

It's a terrible photo but the camera died straight after taking it.

I have some nice black acrylic too, I think it will look great with the lighter pens. I've started working on a jig to make them all the same!

I'm about to do the same Phill. Don't have any black but plenty clear and some smoke tinted as well. Some polycarb too and a largish bit of 3mm acrylic mirror though I doubt that will heat bend.
Did you use a line bender or just heat it and clamp over a former?

Some of us don't have access to a laser so it will be by hand or routed:thinks:

Fortunately I'm a laser engraver/cutter so I have 2, plus the CNC. I got the lathe to be more hands on with my work :)
For this one I used steel rod inserted into pine and heated it with a small blow torch. I have a line bender but it's not set up.
I will try mirrored acrylic tomorrow, I have loads of coloured translucents too to try.

Can you make a holder that holds 30 pens in the same way or maybe a double layer one that holds 60?... I'll have 2

I'd be interested in the results Phill. I used to be in the plastics distribution industry so have some offcuts left and a few contacts so could probably get my hands on so interesting stuff.
I always intended to make a line bender and still have some 1/2" asbestos substitute heatproof sheet, also had a 600mm glass heater tube but that's gone the journey as I never got aroundtuit:nooidea:

I want to make up a couple of multiple stands as well so will need to cut a template for the router. roll on retirement...........soon.............very soon..........:banana:

Do you have to use special acrylic sheet to do this?

You can bend any acrylic Paul though cast has a better finish than extruded sheet and slightly different properties.

I only use cast because I do alot of photo engraving on acrylic.

I don't cut any polycarb because it releases chlorine when cut/heated and it's not nice

I'm thinking of making a couple with the names of the wood engraved on them, mainly because I'm useless with recognising wood :winking:

I just hold my breath:wink:

I'd be interested to see what you do with the engraving Phill. Not sure how that would work though as the stand would be only of use with that wood

I should imagine that if you can produce these stands in quantity and at the right price there will be a lot of interest from forum members. That will definitely include me.

Cheers, I should be able to do some pretty good prices, I've knocked up a design for a flat packed one(easier to pack away each day and easier to post).

I will dig out the strip heater tonight.
