MIke Cawthorne and his partner Rene, ran Mactimbers at Lower Benfield Peterborough, PE8. They ran an old fashioned Saw Mill and Mike accrued his timber from local council fellings and did it because he was old school and loved talking to people about wood.

Very sadly although he tended his land on which there was a national monument, for the good of anyone who wished to see this small mound of no known significance by circumsizing it with a lawn mower twice a year to satisfy the two visitors who have visited the site over the last five years, the saw mill he had encroached on to the protected site by five feet and has done so for about fifteen years to no ones detriment. Jobsworthy asserted over stubborn and stubborn got the hump and it all cost fortunes and got totally out of control and the local cretins have placed a winding up order on his wood activities. As such the wood is being auctioned off in 150 lots. Visit Mactimbers.co.uk and the link to the auction house is there. Buyers premium is 16.5% plus vat so becareful of bidding if you wish but I am sure that you will get a good deal.

Very sad that it came to this, Mike is a very nice guy.

The whole story involves English Heritage, a family squabble, the local council, and so it goes on.... and on...... Its all very trivial.
