mach3 razor kit

My Dad uses a wet razor so when I saw these kits it seemed like the ideal Fathers day gift, this was turned from crosscut American Black Walnut.I made a pen for him towards the end of last year this matches the pen though I am not sure why you would be writting while having a shave lol

Not having done anything like this before I had a look online to see what sort of shape people generally made them & then picked the shape I liked the most. Think it turned out quite well & apparently my Dad is delighted with it so mission accomplished.

How did you waterproof it by the way?

A really nice job Martin, all He wants now is a letter opener, bottle stopper and a pizza cutter to complete the set.

Best result ,happy Father equally happy son and in this case maker of a lovely present I know when I use a wet razor (seldom) I try to use a softly softly hold and controlling pressure is essential,your design lends itself to this.Before I married over 64 yrs ago my girl friend later wife saved up for ages to present me with an electric razor sealing my adoration of her. Personal gifts rule IMHO.Good one Martin.

Thanks for the comments people, I was going to make a razor & brush set to start with but my Mum said he doesn't use a brush anymore so seemed a waste.
Phil it is not waterproof as such, couldn't find anything on line about how people finished them so just used the Melamine finish which should afford some protection. I did make sure I aso coated the end grain at each end of the tube before I assembled it.
I have another couple of kits so will probably make another one at some point. Not sure when because I have quite a lot of other things to do first lol

Maybe but I started using the Melamine finish because I was never 100% happy with my CA finishing, being fairly new to all this it is a skill that I have't mastered fully & to be honest it is one that I may never learn to do properly. I don't do a huge amount of hand turning so not that many oppertunities to practice lol

where about are you based? if you are near to me Id be happy to share my knowledge. I CA finish all my pens. It is an art though. I was teaching someone recently who didn't quite get it first time, so showed another way and he aced it. always happy to share knowledge. A cuppa, chat and biccie always helps haha

Bit to far away to get together for a cuppa but thanks for the offer, I live in Fife, Scotland lol

Having said that I see you are in Surrey, I was there a few weeks ago, my parents live in Epsom or Epsom Downs to be more precise. Made the mistake of visiting spring bak holiday weedend so it was mobbed lol. Forgot that is one of their 3 race meetings a year.

I grew up in Ewell & Epsom, live in Scotland now because I spent 20 years in the Royal Navy in Nuclear Submarines based in Faslane, when I was Medically Discharged in Aug 1994 I had a 5 bedroom house in a place called Dalgety Bay & 4 kids 3 of which were at school so didn't want them to loose all their friends or move to new schools. Plus the fact that if I had sold the house I was living in I wouldn't have been able to buy a 1 bed starter home in Surrey lol

I will be down that way at the beginning of October (health problems permitting). The software I use for the CNC router is by a company called Vectric who are based near Birmingham, they have a one day UK user group meeting each year which I attend if I can travel. Being that far down I go the visit my Mum & Dad for a few days.
