I've been thinking about some method of putting a mark on my pens to identify them as made by me and wondered if anybody does this or has any ideas.

Take a guess
Never thought about that before, with the surface area of a pen being relatively small to get anything on that that was legible would detract too much from the pen itself I'd have thought.

Possible you could have a transfer made to stick on the internal mechanics of the kit but again it would be pretty small :nooidea:

I've never done it, I think it would be too much effort.

I have thought about it, but that is as far as I have got. My thoughts are a custom finial design, standardised across my range (this is part of a different, longer term plan).

I don't think that it would be worthwhile spending long on trying to brand a standard kit pen- the opportunity to do so is limited. If you customised the kit, the opportunities may present themselves. For example on a closed end pen, you could have a custom finial where segmenting gives you some repeatable options (e.g. the mont blanc star). Alternatively a signature centre band, clip etc.

As a follower of old Antique Road Shows that we get served up the value of a mark is in the master class as you say with pens it is limited, what I find is the value of a pen is in the presentation making the transaction detailing how to replace the biro or ink etc. Showing almost a reverence for the pen you include the value. When I was in business I never let a customer rough hand a picture even a proof we kept with gloves and used them both them and us. Over time the business you do most is repeat or by word of mouth with a card included in the transaction. If you sell through an outlet a named drawstring cover for the pen is of great value.

On my slim lines my signature is the shape I make my pens. You could get your pens etched with a logo by laser engraver. The cost of this may make your pens too expensive.

With a pen for me it ain't worth it as PaulM said it would need to be small unless you design a stamp or something like a hallmark they use on metals. Not only that but if you want an advertising pen go order a pile of plastic ones with the name and address on them because that is what you will turn your pens into, in my eyes very tacky
