Making an index plate

Started this a few months ago and put it aside.
When done (??) I should be able to mount it on the
left end of the headstock spindle of my Clausing metal lathe
and the wood lathe. 7-1/4'' x 60 tooth saw blade. Even with
carbide tools on the metal lathe it was tough to cut out the disc.

Two locating holes 60 indexing holes gives you a good range of indexing.Some holes are larger than others. Interesting when you finish.

Peter, the drill I used for the first two holes was too big.
The other 58 holes were done with a smaller one.

Progress mate waiting for the finished job. When I was making mine I went to the most accurate source who stuffed it up and I used meshing gears.

I could have looked for a 60t gear but it's more fun this way

On U tube one time I viewed a guy making his indexing device another way apparently there are so many ways to do this. THere are many sources of drilled disks and pin connections around. I realised accuracy and infinite care are needed. Good luck mate. From my memory Clausing made some beaut metal lathes. What model Clausing is your lathe?

Peter, It's a1947 Clausing Model 111 MK 3a I'm going to scrap the index disc
for now. I just bought a 60T 12DP Gear (4-7/8'' dia.) on ebay for $17.00 delivered

This is my 72 tooth gear with a meshing small gear on a Taig Lathe.

Nice setup. Is the meshing gear used to lock the 72T in position??

Yes it is I have modified the thing since I will take pics later, the gear is fixed full time to the shaft.

My 1966 Hercus is related to your lathe in a round about way my drive is a P Pattern .

They are great machines Angelo,most the school hade them in the metalwork sections, they are being phased out now days
some people are getting real bargains.
