I was wondering about trying to cut threads like this one but I have no idea what type of thread it is, AF, metric etc to know what taps and dies to buy. Does anyone know how to tell or does it matter? It's certainly a very fine thread. Any clues appreciated :thinks:

It's your pen so it's whatever you want to put on it.
There are many threads already open on this subject Ray best to look at those rather than go into one again.

Cant help you with what thread, it could be a triple start thread, taps and dies are expensive in AUD now.:sob::sob:
I bought some 10 and 12 mm taps and dies both in 0.75 threads, finest I could find.
Think it was Frankie who put me on to these.

Ray, if you are trying to match to an existing thread your best bet is to get some thread gauges and measure it. If you just want to make your own pen it doesn't much matter - choose the thread you want and go from there. Being a Metric fella I would recommend M12 to M14 by 0.75mm or 1mm, both of which look pretty fine on the finished object. Some of the AF lads will be along soon to offer you some imperial alternatives.
